| The Junkers Ju.
86 twin-engined, high-performance monoplane is the latest addition
to the fleet of Swiss Air. It was acquired to operate the night mail
service between Zurich and Frankfurt over a mountainous route not
requiring a machine as big as the Douglas D.C. 2, the calling for
the safety of two engines. The Ju. 86 normally has accommodations
for ten passengers, but on the Zurich-Frankfurt night service it is
arranged to carry 2,200 lbs. of mail and freight it is fitted with
two Junkers "Jumo 205"' heavy-oil engines, which give it
a cruising speed of 175 m.p.h. |
