
| Messrs. Short
Bros., who have been building all-metal flying boats for over twenty
years, recently completed delivery of an order from Imperial Airways
for thirty-one Empire machines as illustrated here. Two of these the
Caledonia and Cambria, carried out the experimental Trans-Atlantic
survey flights of 1937. Seventeen passengers are carried in these
boats and two tons of mail. They are powered by four Bristol Pegasus
radial air cooled engines of 740 h.p. giving a cruising speed of 164
m.p.h. |
