
| A number of Electras
were purchased by British Airways Ltd. for use on their Continental
services, from the Lockheed Corporation of America, and have proved
very popular machines. They are of medium size, seating ten passengers,
and of all-metal construction. Two engines of 400-450 h.p. give them
a cruising speed of over 170 m.p.h Mr Howard Hughes' famous dash round
the northern hemisphere was accomplished in a special Lockheed "Super
Electra,"' which averaged 206 m.p.h. for the whole journey. |
