uses the Lockheed "Electra" ten-seat transport monoplane
on its services from Chicago to Minneapolis, Seattle and Winnipeg,
where cold weather is the rule rather then the exception. and the
difficulties of flying over mountainous country are further complicated
by snow and blizzard. The black strips along the leading-edge of the
wings of the "Electra" shown in our picture are de-icers
to prevent ice forming on the wings and forcing the machine down.
The "Electra" fitted with two 425 Pratt & Whitney "Wasp-Junior"
engines cruises at 192 m.p.h. and weighs fully loaded 10,100 lbs. |
