The advent of the internal combustion stationary engine was an event almost as revolutionary as the invention of the steam engine, it enabled farmers and industry to power all types of machinery and freed up manpower for other tasks.  Within a few years of being introduced these power units were fitted to a chassis and by employing chain drive to the driving wheels the first farm tractors came into being.
