| Classic Military
Vehicles. The First World War provided the impetus for self-powered
Military Vehicles to become a vital component of all Armed Forces.
Initially all types of civilian vehicles were commandeered and pressed
into service. An example was the use of both British and French buses
and taxis used to transport troops to the fighting front. |

| It soon became
apparent that purpose built vehicles would better suit Military requirements,
manufacture's were quick to adapt suitable chassis's to suit needs
as they appeared. |

| Political instability
during the 1930's resulted in rapid rearming. Modern fighting forces
required more versatile vehicles. Development of all types of vehicles
such as multiple wheel drive and amphibious types resulted in the
vast range of purpose built vehicles used by all Armed Forces throughout
the Second World War. By the end of that conflict the variety of vehicles
in use included the minute Paratroopers motorcycle, the Jeep, Amphibious
Troop Transport's, Heavy Artillery Tractors, and a vast number of
different types of tracked vehicles. |
